Only 30% of El Salvador's population has a bank account. The rest are operating largely in a cash economy. Bitcoin gives financial access for people willing to try and use the Chivo app or other Bitcoin wallets, which is incredibly powerful. But we're in a country where there are 1.6 smartphones per head of population.
