The Philosophy of Language
Wittgenstein thought philosophy was in trouble when language went on holiday. He wanted to see that language not only involves a relation to other people without which you couldn't have meaningful significance for your own words, but that language also ties you to the world. And there is no predicament of the sort the Cartesian philosopher envisaged of us sitting by ourselves in our own library wondering if anyone else existed and wondering if we were the only thinkers.
