Lafayette was a slave owner at 11 when his father died, and inherited some enslaved workers. Lafayette would later be quoted saying, if i had known i was helping to create a land of slavery, i would have never lifted my sord in the cause of america. He was probably washington's best friend, and would remain so for all washington's life. But washington didn't free his isen slave workers until after his death - he was the only a slave holding founding father to do that.
