The rate of child poverty in the us. used to be much higher. As recently as 19 59 was 27 %, roughly double what it is to day. Over the past couple decades, we see reductions in poverty when one of two things occur. One is we expand the social safety net. The second thing that happens is there was an increase in employment among mothers.
