The Legend of Miranda

Miranda left venezuela as a 21 year old student way back in 17 71. The spanish authorities, of course, had spies all over the world and they were well versed in miranda's movements. They thought he might be coming with like four thousand men, not, you know, 200. 60 or so men were captured, all of them citizens of the united states, including young william duban smith. Ten of these prisoners were hanged immediately, and the rest were chucked into prisons in cartagena. Their plight became quite a scandal once news of all this broke back home.
