The Left's View on Abortion

I think like it's reasonable for a Democrat to lie about abortion. Like how much more evil is banning abortion than like any of the bands that the FDA does? Right. I also say if you are an EA, then pro life seems to me to be the default view definitely because basically a woman is inconvenienced for nine months but another person gets to live. The other one is well maybe it's just laying basically that banning abortion just changed the timing of births rather than the number you try with that one. Although there again we know that there's a lot of people that don't plan to have any kids and then they actually get pregnant and then they say alright well I guess we will

Yeah, I don't know. I think like it's reasonable for a Democrat to lie about abortion. Like how much more evil is banning abortion than like any of the bands that the FDA does. Right. Like, like to me the FDA like even if I were just like completely subscribed to the left wing view that like abortion is a kind of like. You know, my actual position on abortion is pretty funny it's like, oh, you know, there could be a slippery slope to just like a completely invasive medical regulatory state. But like that kind of already exists and not only does it already exist but there's like a positive correlation between opposing abortion bands and supporting all of those other bands, which to me is just like a completely crazy state of politics. Yeah,

my body, my choice except for drugs.
Speaker 2
Except for like literally every for like 90% of
Speaker 1
things. Right. I would say like my take on the leftist view would be something like look, most pharmaceuticals barely anyone uses them anyway so it's not that harmful to go and delay them. Whereas there's a ton of women who are going to have unwanted pregnancies and so to go and stop them from that that's really bad. The harder one I would say is, how about narcotics as we legalize narcotics. I mean that's like a very clear case of my body my choice and there's a ton of people want to use
Speaker 2
narcotics. Right, right. I think like the right wingers don't go far enough on this right Richard and Nani had a very good tweet on this that like the opposition to bandic narcotics should actually come from a kind of right wing morality. Like really you're going to let the consequences on that like these things have on like worst people influence whether good people can use them. Right. Like that to me is the kind of good good take on narcotics.
Speaker 1
That was actually
Speaker 2
very
Speaker 1
persuasive to me. I also say if you are an EA, then pro life seems to me to be the default view definitely because basically a woman is inconvenienced for nine months but another person gets to live. And we also have a lot of data saying that all large majority women who missed the deadline for getting an abortion actually seem to be about as happy with their lives as the women who did not just miss the deadline. But there was a lot of times article that publicized paper on this that was quite striking. The New York Times bin was that it was terrible to go and prevent women to get it from getting abortions. But all they really had was bad financial consequences. But when they looked at actual life satisfaction it was about the same it's like well, if having a baby hurts your finances without hurting your life satisfaction it looks like it is razor like the non monetary satisfaction. So then on furthermore another person gets to live. So I think it's one for an EA I think it's actually pretty hard you have to get to some kind of mouth using and view where we're approaching carrying capacity and therefore if people have more kids then this will actually reduce the number of people and in some other way. So you'd have to actually get to the view of more people are in fact bad on balance before you could really reconcile being pro choice with with being in EA. The other one is well maybe it's just laying basically that banning abortion just changed the timing of births rather than the number you try with that one. Although there again we know that there's a lot of people that don't plan to have any kids and then they actually get pregnant and then they say alright well I guess we will have the kid. So I think it's very unlikely that the effect of banning abortion is not pro natal. So if you do think that it's good for human beings to be alive. Now again of course you to say fine I'm not a utilitarian I'm not myself. But when I meet people utilitarian who are pro choice I am genuinely puzzled I think it's more sociological they just refuse to consider the applications of the

position.
