Reporters Committee for the Freedom of the Press: South Carolina won't allow face-to-face interviews with prisoners. Alyssa has reported on education in prisons quite a few times, and she'll tell you that gaining access to prisons is not easy. There's no guarantee a prison will grant permission for a reporter to interview an incarcerated person. The status of the prisoner plays a role; are they on death row? Are they in solitary confinement? If so, access may not be permitted.
