In 17 93, the south would have had 33 seats out of 105 if you had just gone by the population of free people. In 18 12, just before whitman was born, they should have had 59 out of a hundred and forty three seats. This is the landscape we're in in america of walt whitman's time. All this is going to be important for our discussion of whitman. He's right there in the middle of this these ideas. When you talk about him as he wanted AmeriCorps...you cannot ignore this humanity that he didn't call for. And some of his views are admirable but not everyone agrees with them.
