Every man and woman over 18 got the vote from 1907 to about 1958 on whether there should be a pub in the town center. And what happened? Well, they had to get over it. They voted narrowly against. There's this myth that Lechworth was a dry town. There's actually a town of home deliveries from the breweries in neighboring towns or things like that.
