The Importance of Being Sober
Graham was diagnosed with tuberculosis at the age of 18. He drops out of school and moves back to his uncle's farm, where he works two jobs as a papermaker and bartender. While working at the tavern, Graham starts to notice that the local patrons would come in one way, aka sober,. And then they'd end up acting like complete fools. This realization becomes very important to Graham's future because it makes him completely swear off alcohol and drinking in general. After years of battling TB, Graham is finally able to get himself well enough to marry again.
