There's something very benign about pride in an almost tribal sense. To be honored, this is a word we have not got in our culture currently. We don't do much of that anymore. But to be honored by somebody else and given pride, maybe it's the wrong word, but given self respect, given honor. And there's also a kind of a grandiosity that we can have. If we come from these dysfunctional backgrounds or vaguely dysfunctional backgrounds, we can become quite grandiose - which is both a means of protecting and defending ourselves. I think my problem would be more with shame than grief.
