The Outer Space Treaty Doesn't Prohibit the Deployment of Nuclear Weapons in Space

The Outer Space Treaty, 1967, did prohibit the deployment of nuclear weapons in space. The Soviets would ultimately develop a system that would basically be fired into space, would rendezvous close to its target, and then destroy it. Until technologies evolve to the point where you could basically take a missile and fire it into space and blow up a satellite with it until you had technologies that enabled you to do that, the nuclear-tip systems just weren't really viable for any kind of precise targeting of space systems.
