The nextus four was right around the time of like, iphone six or five. Apple started giving out for free these adhesive bumper cases. You didn't cover the front of the back of the phone, but it was a bumper that would just go around the sides of the rail and so you put that on the phone,. If you left it on for long enough, it would just kind of, like become part of the phone. And i wonder if there were so many of those types of cases out in the wild that androyd manufactures were also inspired to offer bumper cases.
