The Role of Iron in Iron Deficiency

Iron is involved in the rate limiting step of tyrosine hydroxylase, the synthesis of L-dope from L-tyrazine. It's also involved with tryptophan hydroxyl enzyme and the serotonin pathway as well. Without without iron, when you're iron deficient, you become deficient in these neurotransmitters. That has some effects other than anemia that has some other effects on the body.
