York-Mazan is an associate professor and behavioral biologist at Utrecht University. He says evidence suggests yawning is a brain cooling mechanism. We also open our nasal cavities while we yawn so we really ventilate our nasal apparatus, which cools the blood down that moves towards the brain. The BBC World Service has just launched a new seven-part drama series called Fukushima. It's about one of the most dramatic consequences of the 2011 magnitude nine earthquake in Japan. A devastating tsunami followed which left 20,000 dead and more than half a million without homes.
