You need people who are so full of ideas, they're always triaging down to the thing they can do. The very best people I've ever recruited in different places in my career have all taken at least months to recruit. People like that always have great opportunities. So it's hard to get them to join as an employee because they can start their own. And you cheer them forever. It takes weight. Because they always have something great to walk away from.

Vinod Khosla is the founder of Khosla Ventures, a firm focused on assisting entrepreneurs to build impactful new energy and technology companies. Previously he was the founding CEO of Sun Microsystems, where he pioneered open systems and commercial RISC processors.
