Consciousness Is a Fundamental Feature of All Matter?

The idea that consciousness might not be doing anything is problematic from an evolutionary point of view. People wonder, well, then why would it ae evolved? Ara surely it must be doing something, because it must be expensive metabolically on some level,. And why would this thing have emerged? Nowye, againno, not everything that's emerged has a an evolutionary rational there are things that just come along for free, that aren't really selected for. But our intuitions are so alined with that theory. Also, it really feels like the love and my desire to protect my child is the thing that will give me that extra power...
