The Evolution of Free Will
I think we could identify useful aspects of experiences of free will without that social regulatory component, just in terms of an individual organism figuring out what works and what it doesn't. That adds a very interesting new layer to attributing will as a causal factor in people's actions. So there's an interesting school of thought that says the reason we have a sense of self is because the brain first learned evolved to be able to predict the behaviour of others. And I think cultivating that recognition that everything that we perceive comes partly from within helps us build platforms for empathy and communication with others even up to higher levels.
