JavaScript Frameworks - What Are They?

In an ideal world, JavaScript developers could get by without frameworks. A framework would be something to me that the litmus test for a framework is how many of the letters MV and C does it use in defining what it is? You probably should know one of them even if you end up deciding not to use it. And again, knowing one of them may be a prerequisite to actually being able to land a job.
