As human society evolves to greater complexity, unchecked selfishness will work less and less. tyranny and monarchy are no longer sustain a forms of government almost anywhere on the earth any more. A lot of it has to do simply with the media. The movies you watch shapes how you form your identity. We can't escape survival like some cancerous cancers that eat themselves alive or destroy themselves. Some degree of survival is always required; some survival is harmonious while others are pathological.
