CHAPTER

The Importance of Evolutionary Constraint in the Human Genome

Fauna bio was involved with the Zoonomia project, which looked at hibernation in mammals. They found that 22 species were capable of getting their core temperature depressed below 18 degrees Celsius for more than 24 hours. And we can compare these animals to the 150 strict homeotherms who maintain just a constant body temperature. The research also revealed some interesting genes like MFN2 TXNIP and pink one. These are really involved in altering mitochondrial pathways that are necessary for things like metabolic suppression - an essential part of hibernation.
