At 30 years old, Johnson was the new heavyweight champion. But for many African Americans, and certainly for many white Americans, he took things a little bit too far. He drank heavily, he raced and crashed fast cars, he had gold crowns. Most seriously though, he dated white women at Chicago's fanciest poor Delo.
