The Police's View on Witness Protection

The police want to ensure that in important cases, especially a prosecution is able to prove its case in the court and the witness doesn't turn hostile or is not bought over. In those 5% cases where they have a stake, if I can use that term within courts, more informal than formal measures are taken by the police to ensure that the witness is safe and the witness is kept in good humor. Because unfortunately, the witness is equally aware of the importance he has for the police and there have been instances where witnesses have taken advantage of that unfortunately.
