A psychologically healthy brain makes us somewhat heroic. We'll tell a story in which we are more morally heroic than we are in actuality. Our memories, worryingly, are also highly vulnerable to being re-scripted. If you're not depressed, you don't feel heroic. You feel that the obstacles of the world are so much that you're incapable of overcoming them.
