Doctors who are examining them apparently said the men all had extremely high white blood cell counts. They were clueless as to why this occurred or how it could have happened based on evidence they were given from the soldiers. But of course, you're in wartime. You're eating and drinking the supplies that you've got on hand there while you're deployed. It's unlikely that an entire battalion like that would get caught up with something.
