Xeno's Last Few Years on the Throne

Xeno's desire to appease the monophysites also led to the first major break between Eastern and Western churches. He was about sixty-five years old and had clung to power, sometimes surviving only by the skin of his teeth for seventeen years. The conflicted reports of Xeno's reign make it hard to pass judgement on him. By staving off coups and rebellions, Xeno was able to bring the civil service and the military more firmly under his control. His greatest achievement, though, was pushing the Goths out of the Eastern Empire.
