HBCUs when they spent the three or four decades producing the kind of curriculum and culture required to graduate the civil rights movement was an enormously productive thing for America. HBCUs have done that more aggressively and better than any other tradition in American higher education. Democracy is being threatened yet again and it is pretty lethal this time.
