The Value of Being a Person
A premature baby born in the United States of 25 weeks would be a person under this view. But if he or she were born in rural India, they would not. How can your value as a human being depend on whether the place you were born has clean water? Why does the fact that the unborn are very helpless prove they're not persons? Without technology, human beings are not viable at the bottom of the ocean or on the surface of the moon. An astronaut or scuba diver whose gear malfunctions doesn't suddenly transform into a non-person. They're still a person.
