The Importance of Holiness in the Old Testament
Holiness is a status, not an objective. When the bible says that, be holy as i am holy, i think i've got him cornered. But when you say that, ok, going back to what i was taught again as a younger christian was holiness is is adherence to a set of rules. And so in that sense, they are focused on that kind of context. They're not arbitrary, but they are contexted. That is, they represent how people in the ancient world were supposed to order their society and their lives in the presence of away.
