The middle ages has a very sophisticated apparatus, which petrarch inherits, develops and then hands to later renaissance people. The wisdom of plato and the wisdom of cicero, are akin to the wis s of revelation. They are sort of groping toward it. They are seeing the light distanc distantly. All wise ople everywhere in time are groping toward and trying to describe the same thing. And if you have disagreements in their texts, it's the same thing where if you put your ten authors in a room and ask them to write a description of a vase, they'll all come up with different results.
