The US Is Worried About the Chip Act
Most US chips are not made in the US anymore, they are made in Taiwan. China knows it needs to wean itself off of dependence on Taiwan for making semiconductors. So eventually, SMIC will be serving the Chinese market. And maybe they won't have the cutting edge chips that a TSMC would have had,. It'll do good enough for whatever the Chinese government or Chinese companies want.
