Babel was being used to translate the JavaScript syntax that developers were using in practice. Now, what was happening is that this Babel thing was actually pretty fast. But some of the code bases that we're optimizing against have millions of files in them. So it turns out that millions of milliseconds is a long time. We replaced Babel with SWC. And now we went from the realm of milliseconds to microseconds. That's when we realized, holy crap, Rust is not just two times better. It's 10, 20, depending on how you, what face of the process you're measuring, hundreds or even thousands of times faster.
