The Artist's Exemplar

The artist's exemplar is a phrase that appears in the book, and i wonder whether we could use this to go back to the historical view. In the eighteenth century there was this revolt against the academy, against academic models of art. Instead of wanting to get head down and perform well in the academy, you were instead supposed to do what it is that a genius does. This quickly became a kind of clechet, which people were aware of, but at something that utterly changed athe culture for ambitious artists.
