YNAB's Payee Rules Work Really Well.
YNAB lets you categorize based on payee without the user creating an actual pay rule. The big gotcha in this whole process is transfers between accounts, especially when you come across these blessed souls who are like, well, I transfer $5 every day from this account to that account. You'll get to the point where you'll very rarely have to categorize a transaction because YNAB's payees are so reliable.
