Jules Vasquez says Belize's gang suppression unit officers are in a different league to the local police forces. The commander at the time, Mark Ovidal, wished for them to have a much broader footprint in law enforcement. He felt that many times his local police had already been compromised by the thick wallets of US investors. "I put my pants on, went back outside before I could even get outside the door," said Vasquez.
