How to Find the Hits in a Massed Audience

An editor's job is really about finding the hits. A hit is something that the largest group of massed audience will enjoy. The story grid came out of an effort for me to system tize the process by which an executive editor at random house has, you know, trained their eye in such a way that they can pick out a hit.
