By 19 11, the ching dynasty had fallen, bringing an end to the lineage of dynastic rule in china. With a new nationalist government looking for ways the country could pick itself back up, they quickly saw that something had to be done about the chinese language. So there's a big congress about what's to be the standard for the national pronunciation of chinese. It was held in 19 13 at the capital in bejing. People reportedly fainted and had to be carried home. They fell sick and basly backed out this conference, couldn't bear to come back. Eventually wang jo wen out. He managed to put mandarim forward as the model.
