The Passion for Ethics
I think the turning point was in 1972. I had come to FSU in 1970, and then all of a sudden this explosion in Miami, 1972, about the abuse of residents at Sunland Miami. That was just a huge ethics crisis for our field. Behavior analysis was put on moratorium at that point. There was a big investigation. Todd Risley, who was from KU, was part of a Blue Ribbon Committee to investigate that. And what came out of it is some recommendations for how to manage this field in such a way that we would be healthy. We would be helpful and not hurtful.
