Flood Risk in Populated Areas Around the World

Beth tellman has published a study about flood risk in populated areas around the world. Using satellite data capturing images from all over the earth twice a day, beth and her colleagues identified 913 flood events over the course of 18 years. We see that up to 86 million people newly reside in these observed inundated areas. What this represents is an increase in the proportion of global population exposed to floods, nearly a quarter, 20 to 24 %.
