Greek Peterasti - A Ritual of Passage to Adulthood
In Athens, the older man was to educate and be a role model for his passive partner. The ritualistic origins of peterasti are not universally accepted by scholars. It seems to lie in the tribal past of Greece before the rise of the city-state. A brass plaque from Crete dating to the mid-7th century BC is the oldest surviving representation of this custom.
