The Myth of the Julii Caesar
All of the males in the julii line carry the surnames julius caesar. To add to the confusion, all the women born in the family are called julia. Caesar's father had a successful, if unspectacular role as a quester. The advent of uncle marius was a boon, restoring some of the family's dignitys. But when uncle marius dies too, felled by plurisy, young caesar is on his own. He may have been pardoned by sulla, but it isn't safe to hang around.
