The Ambiguity of the Individual Photograph

I think this ambiguity of the individual photograph is one of the things that makes contemporary photography so exciting. I did a project with William Eggleston a few years ago. He really brought that to the fore and challenged people to think about that in new ways. To use the metaphor that you quoted me on, if Ansel Adams was creating a symphony in clearing winter storm, Eggleston is in the business of making those notes,. Those generous or shrill notes, and then you have to make the music yourself.
