The Rise and Fall of Italian Fascism

The government, both local and national, worked really hard to keep a lid on events. With control of the newspapers, it was easy to keep news of protest from spreading. Added onto this was the tendency of fascist prefix throughout Italy to downplay the size and spirit of the opposition within the territory that they were in charge of. In 1932 Mussolini published The Doctrine of Fascism which tried to provide definition and structure around Mussolini's definition of fascism. This helped capitalize on international interest in the political movement. Many countries would continue to try and work with Mussolini and the Italians even if they would later be great critics and enemies of the Italian leader.
