In Turkey even Kurdish politicians can run. Even if you're in prison you can run for president and actually we saw in the last presidential election that the Kurdish politician Demir Tash actually got 10% of the vote running from prison. It's one of your points that the dictator uses regulations and sort of small things in order just to undermine bit by bit their opponents. There was a time when Putin seemed to be using similar techniques with all those pictures of him hunting and fishing and all that stuff. But there seems to have been less of that recently.
