Introduction

Up until that point, the battleship had been the dominant part of every nation's fleet. The British weren't looking for a big win or a decisive battle, they just wanted something to brag about in the press. They launched 20 lightly armed biplanes off the deck of the HMAS illustrious. These were all propeller driven biplanes, and the planes looked like something more likely to be used in the First World War than the Second.
