In 1888, Nikola Tesla invents an alternating current motor. Edison gets really worried because the AC system is so vastly superior to his dumbass DC system. You need fewer wires, the wires are smaller, it benefits from economies of scale. So he tries another idea by shocking dogs with direct current and then doing one shock at alternating current which invariably killed the dog. Get a recreation of this experience in the comments.
