When the first transatlantic cable was completed, an awful lot of terrible poetry was written and people predicted that it would lead to world peace. This is not why we have wars, right? We have wars for stupid ideological reasons. It doesn't matter if we can all talk to each other instantly. That's probably going to make war more likely. The problem is the human brain, we like simple stories. We like utopias. We like dystopias. Engineers also like the idea that a new invention is the answer to everything, and we'll solve everything.
