There was an optimism, both in the inevitability of socialism and the time span upon which they predicted that this inevitability would come about. It is sort of tragic, in a way, when you look back and read these wonderful thinkers because they did seem so convinced that we were to make progress much faster than we actually did. And that optimism, i think, often misses the fact that while we are adoptive in our strategy, and we, you know, change according to what is necessary, capitalists do the same thing.
