The Long Island Lolita: Amy Fisher's Story
A week after Amy's arrest, one of her clients sold the tabloid show a video of him having sex with the then 16-year-old. Fisher was dubbed the Long Island Lolita and again, the media used the Nabokov reference in a way that suggested an older teenager was capable of destroying an adult man's life by inflaming his desire. When this video was aired on hard copy, Amy tried to overdose on pills from her parents' medicine cabinet. Although legally, she could not consent to any of the sex she had had with older men, commodified or otherwise, before she turned 17.
