The Santa Fe Indian Boarding School

The Santa Fe Indian boarding school was one of more than 400 in the 19th and 20th centuries. It used separation and violence to stamp out the traditions and spirit of indigenous children. In 1976, tribal governors of the 19 local Pueblo communities took control and indigenized the curriculum. Now native language and culture are celebrated here. They have one of the highest graduation rates in New Mexico.
